Search Engine Promotion- Use It to Increase Web Site Traffic

When it comes to search engine optimization you should always make sure that your website is properly coded to allow the search spiders to easily take in your pages. When the robot finally reaches your site you want to ensure that your site is indexed properly.

Make sure you list a description and keywords in each page of your site. These are placed in meta tags. Do your keyword research carefully, and make sure to use a keyword tool like Overture's or Google's. These tools tell you how popular a certain keyword is compared to others. You will want to choose some keywords that are searched heavily, but also choose a few that receive less searches so you will be able to rank higher due to the small amount of competition. Having a page that ranks in the top three for a keyword that receives 1000 searches per month is better than having a page rank 400th for a keyword that is searched 30,000 times per month.

Once you have found some good keywords and listed them along with a keyword-rich description, you must wait for your site to get indexed by the search engines. You can submit your pages to search engines, but I have found that a link on a page that has already been indexed is faster. In fact the more links you have on quality websites the higher your page ranks in the search engines.

Try emailing the webmasters for related sites and tell them that you have found their site useful, and that you will be linking to their site. Ask them if they think their audience would find your site useful ,and see if they would consider placing a link up to your site. This is a great way to gain many back-links. As you increase your incoming links, your page rank will increase, and the amount of visitors coming to your website will increase because your site will rank higher in the search engines. All of this can have a significant impact on the traffic coming to your website.
